What Dentures Are

Dentures are a removable plate or frame that replaces missing teeth. Dentures are extremely customizable and can easily be made to resemble your original teeth. Best of all, dentures remain unattached to the mouth, which makes removal as easy as can be.

Your cosmetic dentist will work to restore those missing or unsightly teeth using one of several procedures, all of which will be tailored to your unique needs. We will work to preserve as much of your natural teeth as possible to preserve an authentic looking smile, all while improving the surrounding gum and bone tissue.

When you are missing a good portion of your teeth, it is natural to feel self-conscious and want to hide your smile. At Cherrywood Dental Care, there is nothing we love more than watching our patients discover a brilliant new smile. If you have been experiencing any of these issues, please contact our staff to see if dentures are right for you. Our clinic is proud to provide the comprehensive care you need to improve your dental health and is committed to returning even the most damaged mouths back to full health.

Benefits of Dentures

While you will not have to restrict your diet or eating habits to maintain the dental sealants, it is a good idea to refrain from chewing on hard substances immediately after the procedure. While there are no restrictions in terms of your dental sealants, it is important to treat them as you would your natural teeth. Continue practicing good dental hygiene by brushing and flossing your teeth at least twice daily and continue scheduling dentist appointments every six months.

If you continue to take good care of your teeth, your teeth will continue to take good care of you!

What to Expect with Your Dentures

Getting dentures is a multi-faceted process, one that will begin with a discussion with your dentist about your options. Should the surrounding teeth and/or jawbone turn out to be healthy, there may be more advantageous replacement options to pursue. If dentures turn out to be your best option, then you are ready to begin the process.

The first step in having dentures placed is taking dental impressions. This will involve your dentist taking an impression of the remaining teeth and gums in order to have appliances created that will fit your particular mouth. If there are teeth that need to be extracted, you will need to wait until the gums are healed before an impression can be made. Your dentist will measure the bite of your teeth using wax rims, which will help gauge how to best form the dental appliances to match your bite.

Once these steps are completed, your dentist will discuss customizable options, which may include the size, shape, and shade of the teeth. If you plan on having the dentures match your original teeth, consider bringing in pictures to show to the dentist.

Once this information is collected, the information will be sent to a lab, and when they are complete, your dentist will set up a trial fitting. The final fitting allows the dentist to ensure that the changes that they have made to the fitting are a perfect fit.

Caring for your Dentures

Although dentures are not your real teeth, they still need to be properly taken care of. It is important to keep your dentures clean between wearing them. While there are no restrictions in terms of your dentures, it is also important to continue taking care of your gums and any remaining teeth you have. Be sure to continue practicing good dental hygiene by brushing and flossing your teeth at least twice daily and continue scheduling dentist appointments every six months. If you continue to take good care of your teeth, your teeth will continue to take good care of you.

Like most dental procedures, what is covered by your insurance depends on your individual insurance plan. Still, most insurance plans cover dentures. Keep in mind that your insurance plan may not cover 100% of the costs, so be prepared to pay some of the costs out of pocket. If you do not currently have dental coverage or would like to discuss payment options, please contact our staff to see what opportunities may be available.
