Botox Expectations
First and foremost, you should seek out a consultation with your doctor to discuss your hopes and the potential benefits of having dental Botox Therapy performed.
Once you have agreed upon a path moving forward, you can expect your Botox Therapy to be very short and relatively non-invasive. In your appointment, a very small dose of the protein will be injected into your facial muscles responsible for creating frown lines. Be sure to make clear in your initial consultation what areas you would like addressed.
If you are using Botox Therapy for migraine treatment, the Botox will be injected around the pain fibers involved in headaches. The Botox will then enter the nerve endings and effectively block any chemicals commonly involved in transmitting pain. In this manner, Botox Therapy stops migraine headaches before they begin.
The amount of Botox injected will vary from patient to patient and ultimately depend upon the patient’s age, the nature of the procedure, and what the desired results are. You can expect minimal discomfort, although it is not uncommon for there to be some initial redness around the areas of injection. There is also a slight chance of minor bruising.
Because no two body chemistries are alike, there will be some variation, but generally patients can begin to see results with the first 24-48 hours. For those using Botox to alleviate facial wrinkles, as your muscles begin to relax, the skin over those muscles will begin to smooth out and wrinkles will soon start to fade away.
As with any medical treatment, you may experience some side effects. If you do experience any side effects, they tend to be things like mild allergic reactions; however, there are rare cases where patients begin to have difficulty breathing, swallowing, and experience vision problems. If you experience any of these symptoms, it is critical that you contact your physician immediately.
Aftercare
Following your Botox Therapy appointment, it is advised that you avoid alcohol, aspirin, and Vitamin E in order to minimize any bruising that might occur.
Aside from that, you will not have to restrict your diet, eating habits, or lifestyle to maintain the Botox Therapy. It is important, though, that you continue practicing good dental hygiene by brushing and flossing your teeth at least twice daily and continue scheduling dentist appointments every six months.
If you continue to take good care of your teeth, your teeth will continue to take good care of you!
