Common Causes for Needing Teeth Whitening
There are many different causes for stained teeth, but the primary causes come from common foods that are eaten or beverages that you drink. Most common among these teeth staining causes is coffee, wine, chocolate, and even tea. It should also come as no surprise that if you are a smoker, tobacco can have a dramatic effect on causing the yellowing of your teeth and allowing for buildup of nasty gunk over time.
Teeth Whitening Aftercare
It is not uncommon for patients who have recently had a tooth whitening procedure to experience some sensitivity. This sensitivity generally goes away after a few days, but should this problem persist, it is important to contact your dentist to discuss other means of addressing this concern.
While you will not have to dramatically restrict your diet or eating habits to maintain the new whiteness of your teeth, it is a good idea to avoid foods that commonly stain your teeth, such as wine, coffee, or chocolate, as well as other less commonly known foods, such as balsamic vinegar and certain tomato sauces. It is also important to be aware that tooth whitening is not a permanent solution, and patients who undergo this procedure will likely need to have it performed again.
For this reason, it is important to continue treating your teeth with the care you should be. Continue practicing good dental hygiene by brushing and flossing your teeth at least twice daily and continue scheduling dentist appointments every six months. If you continue to take good care of your teeth, your teeth will continue to take good care of you, and that bright new shine will last longer.
